Cala d’Or is one of the first urbanized coastal resorts in Mallorca, constructed in the 1930´s at a certain distance from the capital, Palma. The original idea was to enjoy the natural beauty of the bays and the coast by building typical white ibizan style houses of only one floor, the promoter of which was Antonio Costa who wanted to trace his own island, Ibiza.
Each bay is open to the sea but has natural protection from the wind and storms, therefore the beaches are not affected. The south-east coast is known for its numerous little coves of golden sand and crystal clear water. The colour of the water changes depending on the sea bed and is so spectacular that there are no words to describe its beauty.
Nowadays Cala d’Or has become a cosmopolitan town with more than three thousand permanent residents coming from all over the world. This makes it a very colourful town where the mix of cultures, traditions and colours blend perfectly and proves that this is a possible way of life.
